UPDATE 05/07/2020 I've finally had a chance to update my project due to focusing on printing PPE full time. To help with any questions I received, I uploaded a PDF file containing valuable information that should aid in the process. After six months of using the Ender 5 Plus with its original control box removed, I'm thrilled with the results. It's incredibly easy to access all components and makes wiring much simpler to manage and change. New images have been added showcasing my current setup. This project is still a work in progress as I strive to clean up cables and improve management. Kersey Fabrications' power supply mounts are now included in this setup. ____________________________________________________________________ UPDATE 03/04/2020 I'm completely overhauling this project. To get started, watch the video from Kersey Fabrications: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2NIcugy7p5k I've ordered a Mean Well 600-watt power supply and I'll be printing Kersey's mounts (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4199095). I plan to use these mounts along with creating a new back panel for the rest of my electronics. It's become clear that upgrading the power supply should be the first modification on an Ender 5 Plus. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I ran out of space in the stock electronics enclosure and couldn't manage the wiring from the Hemera to the box. However, I had great success with this mod on my previous Ender 5 printer, so I applied the same principles to the Ender 5 Plus. Many of the printed parts are for TH3D products, which required extra space and mounts to hold them in place. This modification also allows for better cable management and easier access to all components. The electronics changes include: TH3D Parts: * EZboard Lite: https://www.th3dstudio.com/product/ezboard-lite/ * Dual Z Stepper Motor Adapter with Cable: https://www.th3dstudio.com/product/dual-z-stepper-motor-adapter-w-cable/ * Heated Bed MOSFET: https://www.th3dstudio.com/product/high-amp-12v-24v-mosfet-heated-bed-or-hotend/ * EZABL: https://www.th3dstudio.com/product/ezabl-pro-plug-print-auto-bed-leveling-kit/ * Ender 5 Plus Mean Well PSU: https://www.th3dstudio.com/product/ender-5-plus-meanwell-psu-replacement-450w-24v-18a-real-output/ I also purchased the Ender 5 Plus 12864 LCD Upgrade Kit (https://www.th3dstudio.com/product/ender-5-plus-12864-lcd-upgrade-kit). Unfortunately, I had trouble getting it to work correctly. After extensive research and troubleshooting, I finally figured out the correct cable swapping required to get it working properly. TH3D was extremely helpful in assisting me with this issue. I highly recommend using an exact drop-in screen instead of the upgrade kit. The CHPOWER Creality Ender 3 Original LCD Display Board (https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07NZ9SD26/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) is much easier to extend the ribbon cables with, as it only has one cable. All printed parts are easily modifiable if needed. I mounted everything to a piece of hardboard - essentially a pegboard without holes. Simply mark the locations of the mounts, drill holes, and use bolts and nuts to attach the parts. I used M4 bolts and t-nuts to mount the board on the back of the frame. I have all necessary parts and tools to create new cables, making it easy to modify this setup as needed. This mod is not essential but greatly simplifies adding and changing components.
