~~This is a mod for the Ender 5 to fully eliminate belts rubbing against the 2020 extrusions. It also helps somewhat in testing the tension of the belts.~~ # Note: Before You Go Further **This mod is abandoned unless I switch to linear rail. It is otherwise a really bad idea to use this mod, as it changed the angle of the belts, distorting prints.** # ~~You Will Need~~ - ~~5m GT2 6mm wide timing belt~~ - ~~6x GT2 20T 4mm bore idler pulleys [such as these](https://www.amazon.com/Idler-Pulley-Timing-Teeth-Printer/dp/B07K8CB8JN)~~ - ~~6x M4-20mm screws~~ - ~~6x M4 hex nuts~~ - ~~12x M4-8mm screws~~ - ~~12x M4 tee nuts~~ - ~~Lots of sturdy zip ties~~ # ~~Instructions~~ Don't do this mod. - ~~Print two of sets of Y idlers and one set of X idlers.~~ - Strongly recommend printing a [squaring jig](https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4311961) - ~~Assemble the idlers ahead of time for convenience~~ - ~~Lock the gantry if you printed a jig.~~ - ~~Install the Y axis belts and idlers, one side/belt at a time~~ - ~~Install the X axis belt and idlers~~ # How to change your belt - If you look closely in the pictures, you'll see the belts are looped back on themselves and zip tied in place (twice for good measure, and *tight*), rather than crimped above carriage plate. - This leaves enough clearance on the Y axis carriage plate for the X axis idler pulleys. - Loop the belt around ahead of time to save yourself trouble, but don't cut it until you've secured one side. - Use needle-nosed pliers to pull the belt tight when tensioning the belt. - Shake and roll any slack out of the belt while pulling it tight. Make sure the belt is not caught on anything hidden. - Use a second pair of hands if someone else is available. - Loosen your tensioner somewhat so that you have extra slack to tighten with.
