Ender-5 Corner Extruder Mount & Silent Auto-Home - Digitalhigh Mod
thingiverse
This is a remix of two different parts... I started with this: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3595328 I originally mixed it to be more like the one by @Wolf759, but I am a huge opponent of the idea of having to go out and buy stuff to make parts for a 3D printer. My first attempt placed the print head dead-center of the printer with a 30 degree angle to the bed, but that caused all kinds of issues with filament feeding. So, for my second attempt, I basically took the footprint of the mount for the extruder, and spun that at a 45 degree angle to both the print bed and the corners of the printer, which I think gives some great angles for filament feed all around. I also took into account some user concerns over heat, and tried to keep as much of the stepper motor exposed as possible. Plus, I think the curves just look pretty. Because I already wanted the mount in the top-right corner of the printer, I then decided to incorporate the silent auto home remix by @guicovred. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3965195 In the notes for that remix, however, it is mentioned that they had some difficulty adjusting the position of the switch. I also found this to be the case, and so modified the original mount I'd designed to be the holder for a sliding bracket that the switch attaches to at a 45 degree angle, thus giving it a great path to the rollers for the Y axis and making adjustment simple. Also included is an optional filament guide I created before rotating everything to the corner. It is designed to sit on top of the mounting plate for the extruder motor and have one of the bowden tube connectors threaded into it. For installation - everything required should have come with the printer. I used the "extra" black M5 cap screws that came with my printer to attach the extruder to the mount - this did require tapping larger holes, but this was very simple and only required the tools that came with the printer. There are multiple mounts in the base for various screws depending on your preferences, I just used the two T-nuts and screws that the extruder was originally mounted with. To secure the slide clip to the main base, I believe I used a M3 screw that I "just had" sitting around. Anything should work as long as it doesn't poke through the base and push into the slide clip. For completeness, I've included the X-axis mount as well, although I have not altered anything in that file. Last but not least, there is an extra "support" clip I created that can be screwed into the corner bracket where the original Y-switch was mounted, but I did not find it necessary. If you REALLY want it to be stable, you can install it.
