Ender-5 Bed Support (Topology-optimized struts)
thingiverse
Topology-optimized Bed Supports "struts" pressure fit on existing bed screws and are secured by 12 x 3mm-wide fasteners (six per strut). To use right out of the printer, no supports required, without any after treatment or hardware modification to the printer: shaped to avoid any loss in Z height. Place in bed at 45° like in the photo, to match simulated behavior and designed strength. Compatible with Ender-5 / Ender-5 Pro (mine). ________________________________________ 04/08/2020 Update: This is the Reddit of the design, feel free to ask any questions! https://www.reddit.com/r/ender5/comments/gxq2df/simple_and_topology_optimised_bed_supports_struts/ In a few words, the advantages of this solution are: (1) The struts press fit between bed bearings and bearings bolts, already holding them firmly in place and in contact with all bed surfaces. (2) Fasteners must be placed like shown in photo, particularly on overhang side of the bed, ensuring very firm contact. If correctly placed, assembly is stiff, properly stiff. (3) Design thought for PLA/PLA+ in mind, trying to overcome cracks forming in other designs when printed with this material. The idea behind is to provide a stiff support, anchored to the bed, rather than a part working in pre-stressed condition. For me and others, it worked very well with just a few fasteners, and the difference compared to un-supported bed is huge.
