Ender 5 - Additional electronics plate
prusaprinters

A buck-converter mounting plate that screws to the PSU of the Ender 5, and catches behind the power-switch for stability.

I designed it to mount 2 of the LM2596 modules with voltage display (see image below), but it can easily be adapted for other products, like a Raspberry Pi.
Unfortunately, I measured a buck converter I had prepared but the ones I ordered (months later) seem to be slightly different in size...

Hardware requirements; some nuts and screws, nothing special. You could use a tap for and screw in m4 bolts, but for something electrical, I prefer to use a nut to make sure the screws stay fixed :)

The bolts that fix the plate to the PSU should be M4x8, no longer. The plate is 3mm thick at that point on purpose; the PSU has 5mm thread (as described in the spec sheet), so M4x8 will be safe. There MIGHT be more room inside, but I have not opened my PSU to check. Leave a comment if you know more than I do ;)

Print Settings

Printer Brand:

Creality

Printer:

Ender 5

Rafts:

No

Supports:

Yes

Resolution:

0.1

Infill:

40%

Filament:
Extruder GreenTEC (PLA-ish) Black

Notes:

I used supports for the nut positions, you could print without and cleanup a bit after, but it will be messy.
Note: I printed mine with too few top layer for the layer height, need to check my slicer settings.

LM2596 module

The sis the module on the right, does not fit very well, only 2 screws hold it in place

LM2596 Module

This is the module on the left, on which the measurements are based.
Outside measurements are noted in the image.

Make

Materials used, forgot the m3x5 screws when taking the picture

Left one mounted, fits perfectly

What is this ?! This module is shorter and wider ?!

Dang it! Ah well, 2 screws are better than none ;P

And done :)

Ready to power a 12v silent fan and a Raspberry Pi.

My Ender-5 build so far

https://www.thingiverse.com/make:890134

Category: 3D Printer Parts
