Ender 3 X-Axis Stepper Softmount w/ Direct Drive Extruder Endstop
thingiverse
This x-axis stepper vibration damper has been designed to be compatible with the SpeedDrive v1 - Ender 3 direct drive mount. The direct drive mod mounts the extruder motor behind the hotend for better COG, requiring the x-axis endstop to be moved approximately 1 cm further inwards from its default position. This adjustment prevents the side of the extruder stepper from hitting the left vertical strut. A complete rebuild of a-make-design's mount in Fusion 360 allowed for the endstop to be moved forward as needed. This also enabled the PCB to be slightly lowered, eliminating the need for an extra stopper on the carriage. The curved shape helps absorb forces when the carriage hits the endstop, reducing print time and material usage. Note: Assuming this damper fits the CR-10, but it hasn't been confirmed. If used on that printer, a comment would be great to add to the description. ### Required Materials 1x NEMA 17 stepper vibration damper 2x M3x5 round head screws (usually included w/ damper) 2x M3x20 cap head screws 2x M3x25 screws 2x M3 nuts 2 or more M3 washers (optional) ### Recommended Print Settings (Cura) Line Width: 0.44 mm Layer Height: 0.2 mm Wall Line Count: 4 perimeters Top/Bottom Thickness: 1.0 mm Infill: 35% Gyroid Supports: None ### Assembly Instructions Loosen the x-axis belt, then unscrew and remove the motor and endstop (the screws are behind the sticker with the QR code). Mount everything using the new holder according to the assembly animation in the video above. Don't forget to re-tighten the belt. **IMPORTANT:** As the motor now sits on the other side of the gantry, the stepper direction needs to be reversed - there are 2 ways to achieve this: a) Modify the firmware, as explained in more detail by A-make-designs in the remix source. or b) Physically reverse the stepper motor connector (on the motor side). To depin the connector, use a pair of sharply tipped tweezers or a sewing needle to carefully lift the plastic tabs holding each crimped wire. Pull out the wire and re-insert the pins in reverse order. ### Related things - For the y-axis, use the Ender 3 - Y-Axis Stepper Damper V2. - The fan duct shown in the photos is the Ender 3/CR-10 FANG Lateral Cooler Remix.
