Ender 3 V3 SE 40mm Fan Mount and Duct
thingiverse
I didn't like how loud the stock part cooling fan was so I designed this duct for a 40mm silent Noctua fan. It screws into two threaded holes on the extruder using the same screws as the existing plastic cover. The fan is mounted using M3 x 25mm screws. IMPORTANT: The hot end board puts out 24V. If you are using a 12V fan you'll need a buck converter to step the voltage down so you don't blow up the fan. See images.ALSO IMPORTANT: This part is a WIP. I haven't measured the airflow compared to the stock cooling fan I can't guarantee it'll be as effective. I can guarantee it'll be much quieter. I have printed successfully using this duct but I haven't done any extensive tests yet. I'll report back if there's any issues.Parts used:Noctua NF-A4x20 FLXBuck ConverterM3 25mm screws x4Jumper wires to connect everything togetherSoldering iron. (You could also use Omnijoin connectors which are included with Noctua fans if you don't want to solder.Multimeter to set the buck converter output voltage.Setup:I'd highly recommend using a multimeter to configure the buck converter voltage output first using an external power supply. Make sure it's outputting the correct voltage for your fan before you plug everything in. If you can't do this make sure you turn the adjustable screw on the converter down first.Cut and strip the wires from the stock cooling fan. This connector will be reused to plug into the hot end board.Solder the positive and negative wires to the buck converter IN+ and IN-. Double-check your buck converter output at this point.Cut and strip the wires on the new replacement fan and solder the positive and negative wires to OUT+ and OUT-. Also cut and cover the yellow wire as it's not needed.Use hot glue/tape/tack to stick the buck converter to the side of the duct and mount the fan at the top using the M3 screws.Plug the original connector back into the hot end board.Hotend board 24V ---> Buck converter set to output X Volts ---> New fan (X Volts) FINAL NOTE: Be careful when attempting DIY printer upgrades.
