Ender 3 Small spool holder - Clip in - Designed for spools with 16mm ID
thingiverse
Got my Ender 3 last week, marking my first foray into 3D printing. Ordered some 0.5Kg spools of PLA. They don't fit on standard spool holders. Checked out several small diameter spool holders on Thingiverse but none would work with my printer as they were all designed for a screw-in type spool holder. Meanwhile, my machine has a bayonet style fitting (new design?). So I decided to model one up. Will hold 0.5kg spools with a 16mm ID. With the print settings I've used it's easily strong enough to hold 0.5Kg. I printed a few out and did some testing. With these settings the holder is very strong. Would definitely recommend printing in the horizontal orientation that the model comes into Cura. You can print the holder stood upright but the structural strength is greatly reduced. Can be pulled out once clipped in but doesn't come out very easily. Included two STL files. Large flange has a flange that is the same diameter as the OD of the Ender 3 spool holder nut. This is the one in the pictures. Small flange has a flange that is the same diameter as the ID of the Ender 3 spool holder nut. So you remove the nut with the new spool holder still plugged in. Settings I used in Cura: Layer height - 0.12mm Shell - 1.92mm (all around) Infill - 30% Print Speed - 40mm/s Support - Everywhere Support overhang angle - 60 Build Plate adhesion - None (May change this) When I printed, I didn't use build plate adhesion. It printed fine but after cleaning up the print I was left with a small flat on the flange. I would try a raft if I printed this again to hopefully avoid the flat. Hope you like my design.
