I'm replacing the old bearing with a new 608 bearing, which turns out to be what I needed all along. A thoughtful comment from someone below helped me realize that my R6-2RS bearings weren't suitable for this project. This guide is almost perfect as it stands. However, it fits the bearing slightly looser than I'd like due to my printer's calibration issues, and I don't think I can improve it much further.
