Ender 3 Pro Y Axis Motor Mount
thingiverse
This Y-axis motor mount has been rigorously developed through multiple iterations to ensure maximum stability while still providing easy access to screws. It relies on 100% stock screws for optimal compatibility. Designed as a direct replacement for the original mount, using the same original screws, it is designed to be used without dampeners. However, it is highly recommended to use spacers for the screws facing the motor due to its small head size. Key advantages over the stock mount include: 1. It offers superior stability compared to the stock mount, a trait tested with PLA, where ringing effects were significantly reduced during printing due to the motor being mounted more firmly. 2. It dampens vibrations better, thanks to the difference in material properties between plastic and metal. Despite these benefits, there are some drawbacks to consider: 1. The stock mount served as a heat sink, causing the motor to run hotter - though this increase is minor. If concerned, attaching a heatsink to the motor or redirecting air flow upwards can mitigate this effect. 2. This Y-axis motor mount is assembled in a specific order for optimal results: Precondition: Ensure the existing metal L shaped bracket is removed and you have clear access to the Y axis rail by removing one end of the belt from the bed-sled. Notes: The holes for the motor are made very large to accommodate washers due to the small head size of the screws holding the motor in place. These screws may damage the plastic if subjected to excessive stress. Assembly steps: 1. Direct the belt through the square hole and connect it securely to the bed-sled. 2. Mount the bracket on the Y-axis rail using the three screw holes provided on the mount. 3. Mount the motor, ensuring that the belt is placed on the toothed belt pulley during this process for easier handling later on. 4. Attach the ball bearings that distance the belt from the y-rail - it should be inserted into the hole beside the motor pulley (same placement as the original mount). To verify correct assembly, tighten the belt and roll the bed forward/backward to check if the belt hits the sides of the toothed belt pulley on the motor shaft. If it does, adjust the belt's position on the bed-sled accordingly.
