Ender 3 Pro Bed Spring Screw Locking Nuts - AKA: Bed Spring Thing
thingiverse
The wobbly bed spring screws have been driving me crazy since day one. I realize they probably don't cause a lot of problems, but with a precision device like a 3D printer, I needed a solution better than a nut and washer that would make the spring sit unevenly or take up too much compression space, so... Enter the Bed Spring Thing. Essentially, it's a plastic 4mm nylock style nut with an oversized head and a groove in it where the spring fits snugly. Once printed, you cut threads into the nut using a 4mm screw carefully because there isn't a lot of extra material to work with so you want to be cutting it straight. Print extra just in case one doesn't turn out right, I printed eight and six turned out great but two didn't. Once you have the threads cut, you can install a spring to see how tight it is. The spring fits tightly and actually threads into place perfectly if you twist it in precisely, which is what I was looking for. To install the Bed Spring Thing, thread it onto the bed screw far enough so you can add two more 4mm nuts and jam them together. Then, you have something to hold onto so you can thread the B.S.T. all the way down the nut and snug it up against the bed itself. Tighten it nice and snug so you can no longer rotate the bed screw and you're good to go. Next, thread your springs into the B.S.T until they are seated perfectly and reassemble your print bed knowing that it is now a little more precise and a lot more custom because after all...custom is king. These Bed Spring Things are printed in PETG with 100% infill at a nozzle temperature of 240 degrees Celsius and a print speed of 30mm/sec.
