I really like the Ender 3, and I have two of them. But it was really noisy during printing. So I decided to use some other motor drivers: TMC2208. But this means, of course, to change the mainboard. With another mainboard you need another case. Because I like the position of the electronics, I designed a replacement for the original case which has a design as close to the original as possible. I also wanted to use as many parts from the original as possible. I bought these parts: Mainboard: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07GZMFLPZ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00 Stepper-Motor-Driver: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07SN92RHZ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00 DC-DC Step-Down Voltage controller: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07DP3JX2X/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00 With my case, you can install the MKS board and two Step-Down converters. One of them I use to lower the voltage of the fans (case fan and the uncontrolled hotend fan). I run them with about 16V. This reduced the noise a lot and is still enough cooling. The other voltage controller is for my Raspberry PI. So I'm able to use the printer power supply for the PI (Octo PI). I set the controller to 5.2V. You can find the pin description of the mainboard here: https://github.com/makerbase-mks/MKS-GEN_L/blob/master/hardware/MKS%20Gen_L%20V1.0_008/MKS%20Gen_L%20V1.0_008%20PIN.pdf I use J14 to source the two voltage controllers. At VCO of the PI, I use a diode and a 1000µF 30V cap as sometimes my PI grumbled about undervoltage... J9 is for the "managed" fan of the hotend. The rest is straightforward. The cables are all labeled. Only the thermistor cables are not labeled by themselves. So be careful not to exchange them. The endswitch connector must be exchanged to a 3-pin version, as shown in videos on YouTube. I found this very useful: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ghJTIGpbGL4 The cable of the Z-Endswitch must be exchanged or lengthened by a few cm...
