Ender 3 Main Board & RPI4 Mod
thingiverse
This mainboard relocation platform features custom standoffs designed specifically for a Raspberry Pi 4 to seamlessly fit inside an Ender 3. Intended to be used in conjunction with the newly redesigned cover, this setup allows the RPI4 to safely reside within the case. Unsatisfied with available options that required a USB cable to run from the front of the mainboard box to the RPI, I took it upon myself to design two custom components that would securely house the RPI4 inside the mainboard housing. By incorporating a short, custom-made USB cable and strategically positioning the corners, I successfully managed to integrate everything within a single box. This innovative solution enables the use of the stock fan to draw air directly from the front over the RPI4. To optimize airflow, fabric tape is applied to block side vents on my printer, ensuring maximum airflow around the boards. Notably, I have not encountered issues with exhaust causing cool spots on the bed, but I am currently revising the cover design to accommodate a 5015 fan for improved side ventilation. For added functionality, cutouts are provided on the sides to accommodate a ribbon cable connecting to a TFT display; however, this feature remains unimplemented as I have not found it necessary at present.
