Ender 3 Filament Run Out Sensor and Guide
thingiverse
Updated to version 6, I've resolved an issue where the filament wouldn't retract back through the sensor during paused prints. Still need to test and confirm this update works as intended. I had planned to install a filament run-out sensor on my Ender 3 but was missing crucial measurements in the Lucky3310 guide I'd printed out. To bridge this gap, I merged that guide with another one and added a support structure for the sensor itself. The sensor used is an inexpensive eBay purchase and also includes a pin 27 board to ensure seamless integration. With the firmware updated to TH3D unified, the printer now pauses when filament runs low and resumes printing once new material is loaded. For those interested in replicating this setup, there are several step-by-step guides available on YouTube – just be cautious when installing the pin 27 board as it can easily miss pins unless you double-check coverage.
