Ender 3 Fan Shroud with built-in Micro SD Card holders
thingiverse
Where did I put that card? After using my Ender 3 for a while, I found myself constantly searching for somewhere to store all my Micro SD cards and my single SD adapter. After looking at the Micro SD holders available, it occurred to me that the vertical fins on my fan cover were similar in size to Micro SD cards. That's when inspiration struck. Why not build Micro SD card slots right into my fan cover? They are so thin they won't block airflow any more than a fin. Design from the card up This design allows up to 6 Micro SD cards to be stored (7 in the adapter version - if you leave one in the adapter). I recently started playing with Fusion 360 and wanted a practical project to practice on. I designed and printed a large number of versions of just the small Micro SD card slot component before I got it to hold the cards in place. Resolution of printing has quite an effect on tiny details like the little bump in the card slots, so I recommend printing at 0.15mm or better. I then built my fan cover around Creality's Open Source plans using the cover panel for reference and inserted my SD card slot components into that basic model. I have uploaded a video of the construction here: https://autode.sk/2yE7HEi. The second version provided has a larger slot for a Micro SD to SD Adapter if you have one of those. Supports Print the unit with the front face facing down on a raft. Use supports sparingly. Use a support blocker to not print inside the circular cavity or inside the SD adapter slot, as it is very hard to remove internal supports (if you print slow, you may be able to avoid using supports anywhere except for the micro card slots). Feeling Blue I apologize that the blue renders appear damaged. Thingiverse does not appear to like the way the components were combined, but it does not affect the print. Suggestions welcomed This is my first project from scratch, so please do suggest improvements. I started this project about 4 weeks ago and got tied up with another invention, so finally got around to publishing this one. I am slowly getting better at using Fusion 360, so will be happy to revisit it to improve it.
