Ender 3 External Electronics Case with SD card
thingiverse
I decided to enclose my Ender 3, but I didn't want the electronics exposed to heat, so I began searching for an external enclosure and found MrClown's case. It almost met my requirements, but not quite, so I created a remix. Initially, I placed the fan inside the box (it fits), but it seemed cluttered, so I relocated it outside. This configuration effectively moves air across the board. I also added a switch for lighting on the right side and an SD card slot. A cheap micro SD to SD adapter from eBay worked great, so I bought one. To keep the SD connector inside the box, I slightly spaced the motherboard to the front. I installed zip tip loops to prevent the extra SD adapter cable from entering the fan area. A USB cable is always plugged into the back for convenience. I initially secured my XT60 connector inside, but I felt there wasn't enough wire leading to my power supply, so I brought it outside and secured it with a zip tie, keeping it from pulling out. If needed, I may extend it later, but it works fine as is. It's essential to extend your Z stop wiring; either purchase a longer cable or cut and splice in a longer piece. While not necessary, I extended all my stepper cables to keep them further away from the printer. I've included the STEP files for you to customize as you see fit.
