Ender 3 / Ender 3 Pro Tool Tray
thingiverse
I wanted a simple sliding tool tray with a lid that's easy to incorporate into any setup. This single part file features a hinged lid with minimal supports required for the lid and sliders, making it perfect for printing. To get the best results, print the tool tray base flat on the print bed and the lid straight up along the z-axis as shown in the first rendering picture. The hinge and detent mechanisms will print flawlessly without any modifications at .20mm resolution. However, using more coarse resolutions may cause fused joints, so it's highly recommended to stick with .20mm resolution for printing. The detent mechanism will lightly hold the lid in place at 0-45-90 degrees. This tool tray is a long print that takes approximately 19 hours to complete using default Cura PLA settings with supports. However, it actually took just under 17 hours to print. Supports come off easily with a small screwdriver. To install the tool tray, you'll need to move the LCD display and Y-axis belt tensioner out of the way. It's recommended to use ribbon cable clips in the rear to keep the lcd ribbon cable out of the way of the tool tray. There is extra side clearance on the tool tray to clear the ribbon cable without needing an extra cable clip on the side. Some ribbon cable clips may be too thick to keep the tool tray flush with the front of the frame, but there are modifications available that allow plenty of room. An example can be found at https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4065838. UPDATE - I've uploaded new files for an original Ender 3 and a revised file for a stronger detent action on the lid. The new file is called Tool_Tray_Ender_3.STL, which is a bit wider than the Ender 3 Pro Tool Tray. There's also a revised file called Tool_Tray_Ender_3_Pro.STL that contains the revised detent mechanism.
