Teaser for a custom-built direct drive extruder design tailored specifically for my Ender 3 printer. Objective is to leverage all stock extruder components, printed parts, and standard hardware without compromising print volume or introducing unnecessary overhangs. I've recently installed the bracket, but haven't relocated the extruder yet due to an outstanding issue – I'm still awaiting delivery of a stepper motor extension cable. Meanwhile, I'm also working on resolving issues with my Bowden setup, which is essential for transitioning to a direct drive extruder configuration. A pressing concern is how the increased moving weight will impact the printer's performance. Some experts suggest that a direct drive extruder may require less torque, but they fail to provide concrete data on the magnitude of this reduction.
