ENDER 3 / CR-10 BMG Longitudinal DD Mount w/ Pancake stepper + Source
thingiverse
Currently Unvalidated. This remix of napfkuchen's direct extrusion mount is designed to pair the common right-handed variant of the Bondtech BMG with a 20mm Nema 17 stepper motor in a longitudinal orientation. The benefit of this mounting arrangement is that the relatively heavy stepper motor will now have its weight cantilevered over the x-gantry and have the weight of the extruder/hotend assembly more evenly distributed front to back. This should make the print head more stable overall and decrease the ringing at higher speeds caused by having a direct drive extruder mounted on the 2020 extrusion. The 20mm stepper will also help reduce this effect due to its lower weight. This mounting configuration does not come without drawbacks, however. Any cooling solution mounted flat against the x-carriage will be misaligned by 4mm to the rear of the filament path exiting the BMG unless compensated for with spacers behind the hotend radiator; some are included for convenience, or another method can be used. Additionally, a 25 mm depth stepper will not have enough room in the current design, only 22 mm or less will work, but feel free to modify the source file to your needs. This may also present problems if your pancake stepper runs hot and requires a heatsink, as it will likely not fit between the rear of the stepper and the z axis extrusions.
