Ender 3 Cooling Ring
thingiverse
I've had a lot of success with ring style fan ducts on my DIY printers in the past, so I thought it was time to find one for my Ender 3. After searching, I only found one option, which prompted me to create a new, sleeker version. The one I found was designed by Filboyt at Thingiverse.com. His design is excellent, and I used his mounting method as inspiration, which is why I'm mentioning it. To be clear, this design is 100% original and not a remix. Printing with the stock Ender 3 fan duct should be sufficient, but I highly recommend reprinting with this ring duct installed for better print quality, especially on the inside surfaces. This design is specifically tailored for the newer Ender 3 model. If anyone wants to modify it for a different Ender model and provides the necessary dimensions, I'd be happy to create a custom variation. The mounting process uses the two lower screws that come with the stock duct (see picture 2). The nozzle should protrude just below the bottom of the Ring Duct (see picture 3). I've added an update based on a request from MetalGearSortof. This new variant offsets the ring by 5.3mm compared to the fan for an Ender model. Another update includes a version with a 1mm lower design, keeping the 5.3mm offset, which provides extra clearance for using a silicone sock. I've also included a note: to use the 1mm lower variants, remove your nozzle, wind the heater block two turns further up onto the heat-break, then reinstall your nozzle. This adjustment makes the nozzle sit 2mm lower compared to the heater block, allowing for the extra clearance needed for the sock (thanks to MetalGearSortof for experimenting with this!).
