Ender 3 adaptor for MKS Gen L
thingiverse
This is an adapter for utilizing a MKS GEN L controller board on a Creality Ender 3. The MKS GEN L screws directly into the adapter using the original Ender 3 controller screws, and then simply pushes onto the original screw mounts. I had to drill out the small holes with a 2.5mm drill bit and the large holes with a 5.5mm drill bit. For fitting the MKS GEN L to an Ender 3, I needed to extend the two cables for both thermistors and change the end stop connectors from 2-pin JST connectors to 3-pin JST connectors. To utilize the original Creality GLCD, use EXP1 on the MKS and EXP3 on the display; however, on the display side, cut the small tab off the ribbon cable plug and rotate the connector when plugging into the display. The major drawback with this setup is that you cannot plug in USB with the board fitted (I plan to try changing to a vertical USB B socket), and there is no built-in SD Card. However, the big advantage is that with TMC2208 drivers, the printer is extremely quiet. I also used the E1 output to drive the hot end fan and set up Marlin to only turn this fan on when the hot end reaches 50C or higher.
