Ender 3 /3 PRO combined Z leadscrew support & filament guide mount
thingiverse
Support for the top of the Z lead screw on an Ender 3 3D printer is a must-have feature to prevent accidental bending of the lead screw by rotating it by hand unsupported. This design is an updated version of my earlier Z leadscrew support, which was created to be used in conjunction with the filament guide designed by Filboyt and its derivatives. However, after using these designs together for some time, I discovered that the mount for the filament guide did not hold firmly as others have also experienced. Additionally, I found that my original leadscrew support could move slightly more than desired when using my custom leadscrew speed knob, which is ideal for moving the gantry quickly over a large distance. To address these issues, I redesigned my Z leadscrew support with a full-length support to provide a snug fit and combined it with a filament guide mounting point. This redesign significantly stabilizes both components as each supports the other. When installing this design on your printer, lower the gantry to the bottom first, then remove the upper rail of the printer to allow the support bracket to slide into the T slots. Replace the top rail and ensure that there is no pressure or friction on the lead screw, allowing it to rotate freely. Next, fit the knob (custom leadscrew speed knob) and verify that both the lead screw and knob can rotate freely. Finally, insert the filament guide into its mount, taking note that this feature is designed with a tight fit and may need to be trimmed or lightly sanded depending on the quality/finish of your print. UPDATE: I added V2 in January 2020, which features an M5 countersunk screw hole for those who prefer it. This will require tapping an M5 thread into the end of the extrusion. Be aware that the major diameter of an M5 screw is larger than the filament holder dovetail, so you may need to manipulate it slightly to get the screw in place. I have not printed or tested this design as my original version works well for me, but I included V2 for those who might prefer it. UPDATE: In May 2020, a few users requested a version that can accommodate a 608 bearing. I designed one, but please note that I haven't tested it yet. A number of users have asked why the bearing is on the bottom; see the comments section for an explanation. Keep in mind that the Z lead screw applies very little force to this support during normal use when printing, and it only experiences a light load when turning the z lead screw manually using the custom leadscrew speed knob. Therefore, I don't think the bearing is necessary (my original design doesn't have one), especially since it will reduce the maximum Z range slightly as the version with the bearing is bulkier. However, if you prefer to have a bearing, I've included that option! If you make this design, please post your results. If you appreciate my designs, I would greatly appreciate a tip. It encourages me to create new ideas and inspires me to share them with the community.
