When we leave lengths of rods open and attached to a gantry they amplify vibrations from the frame and try to create the artifacts in our prints. This piece simply slips fills the gap between the handle and the threaded rod with the slightest gap on each side. This will help printing at higher speeds.There is no drag on the threaded rod. The spacer can spin in the handle. And the rod can not move or flex. This design has 30mm of height and helps to hold the length of the screw in alignment. For best installation results, the screws holding the Z motor to it's mounting bracket should be taken a little loose to allow for that small amount of free play to help aide in centering the leadscrew with this piece installed before retightening the motor.
