Endangered Species: Rhino
thingiverse
To create a wireframe bust of a rhino, I used a different technique by generating blobby particles along the polygon edges and converting them back into polygons. Minimal post-print cleanup was required as no raft or support material was needed. The frame is made from MDF, jigsawed and routed with white paint, while the print is affixed using epoxy. The rhino's inside was painted red, and its outside was sprayed with a rubberized black undercoating. Alternatively, some may see a penguin walking up the wall. The bust was printed in natural PLA on a Makerbot Replicator using Makerware with "medium" settings (2 shells, 10% infill, 210 deg extruder, HBP off). It took approximately 4 hours and 41 minutes to print, weighing 52g, with a material cost of $2.29 (excluding shipping costs). The print size at the neck measures about 3" wide, 4" high, and 6" long from neck to nose.
