Endometriosis hits at least 10% of worldwide women, but being a commonly dismissed illness, it takes nearly a decade before diagnosis. Endometriosis is a systemic disease with numerous immune and endocrine malfunctions that sometimes result in misplaced tissue, similar to the lining of the uterus, but not exactly the same, resulting in chronic pain and many other symptoms. It's also one of the leading causes of infertility, and there is no definitive cure up to date. Why is Endometriosis Awareness important? Because many women are surrounded by family, friends, and colleagues who don't understand how profound the physical and emotional effects of endometriosis can be. Because even after waiting an average of 7 to 9 years to get an Endometriosis diagnosis, many women can't access effective treatment for endometriosis. Because there is very little research on endometriosis compared to other diseases with similar impacts.
