End Blade XCB-003-144 XCB-003, also known as IZM-003, was thoroughly examined by A.P. McCartney in 1971. This site is a key location for the Izembek Phase and features a small village with a distinctive whalebone house and numerous artifacts closely related to those found in the Bristol Bay region. The estimated date of this site is between 1200-1350 CE. Research conducted under grants NSF 9630072, NSF 9814086, NSF 9996372, NSF 9996415, NSF 1139266, and NSF 1321411 led to a comprehensive presentation of Western Alaska Peninsula artifacts. H. Maschner served as the Principal Investigator for this research. The artifacts were scanned using either a Faro Edge Arm or a Minolta Vivid 9i. Geomagic and Polyworks software were used for processing these scans, with 2-8 photos applied to texture in Geomagic Wrap. Initial digitizing took place at the IVL at Id. St. Univ., while subsequent processing and publication occurred at Global Digital Heritage. McCartney's findings were published in Prehistoric Cultural Integration along the Alaska Peninsula (APUA 16(1):59-84, 1974). Maschner's research was also featured in Arctic Anthro (doi: 10.1353/arc.2011.0007), specifically in a January 1, 2004 issue (vol. 41, no. 2) featuring articles on pages 98-111.
