XCB-003-246 XCB-003 or IZM-003 was tested by A.P. McCartney in 1971 at a site in Alaska. It is the type-site for the Izembek Phase. The area features a small village with a unique whalebone house and many artifacts similar to those found in the Bristol Bay region. The date of these artifacts is approximately 1200-1350 CE. The research on Alaska Peninsula artifacts was conducted under grants from the National Science Foundation, including NSF 9630072, NSF 9814086, NSF 9996372, NSF 9996415, NSF 1139266, and NSF 1321411. H. Maschner led this research as Principal Investigator. The artifacts were digitized using a Faro Edge Arm or a Minolta Vivid 9i scanner. Geomagic or Polyworks software was used for processing. Two to eight photos were used in Geomagic Wrap for texture mapping. Original digitizing work took place at the IVL at Idahoa State University, while subsequent processing and publication occurred at Global Digital Heritage. McCartney's research is documented in "Prehistoric Cultural Integration along the Alaska Peninsula," published in APUA 16(1):59-84 in 1974. H. Maschner also contributed to this field with a paper titled "Arctic Anthropology," published on January 1, 2004, in Arctic Anthro, volume 41, issue 2, pages 98-111.
