The encoder wheel measures or controls motor rotation speed and amount by its 20mm diameter and 16 slots design. Two photointerrupters placed at 87 degrees operate in quadrature mode, providing a resolution of 64 counts per rotation. Colors such as yellow and black work effectively, although it's unknown if other colors will function properly since infrared light can pass through white PLA material. Resistors used in series with the LED are 1KOhms, while those used with photodiodes are 2.2KOhms. The system functions on a 5V power supply.
