Enclosure for RGB Led matrix display
thingiverse
This is an enclosure for a DIY RGB LED display based on Raspberry Pi Zero W and a Sryled Matrix. The goal of the project was to create a homemade display capable of showing any piece of information from a home automation software (Jeedom). I made an API which enables users to send a URL to the display to show static text, image, scrolling text or a clock. For those interested in this kind of project, there is a tutorial in a French forum: https://www.jeedom.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=59&t=39623. Normally, the images and steps should be self-explanatory, but I can also reply to questions if not. I shall also consider translating the whole thing if I have enough requests. If you use the automatic French to English translation with Google, it should be clear enough to understand most of it. Here is a brief shopping list for such a project: - Raspberry Pi Zero W "naked" (without power supply or enclosure). You can find this everywhere. I took mine from Pimoroni. - A compatible LED matrix: https://fr.aliexpress.com/item/P3-RGB-pixel-panel-HD-display-64x32-dot-matrix-p3-smd-rgb-led-module/32728985432.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.3da26c37Fbb3Iy - A hat for the RPi: https://shop.pimoroni.com/products/adafruit-rgb-matrix-bonnet-for-raspberry-pi - this is the interface to control the matrix - A strong enough (for the matrix and the RPi) power supply: https://www.amazon.fr/Chargeur-adaptateur-dalimentation-diff%C3%A9rents-appareils/dp/B01HRR9GY4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1537449620&sr=8-1&keywords=leicke+nt03054 - Some 3mm screws and washers to hold the LED matrix - And the enclosure... you may need one little screw to block the rear cover depending on your printer accuracy (there may be some play between two parts). Then, to summarize, you need to install Raspbian on your RPi, a PHP server and Python. There are some RGB Python LED libraries from Mr H Zeller to compile and a Python file to start as a service. This daemon regularly checks a command text file and displays the command on the matrix (text, image, scroll, etc). The PHP server is used to pass parameters to the Python daemon via an URL.
