Enclosed Euro / US dollar coin cell
thingiverse
These days, seeing how things are going we should adore our money. I thought that I should give a try to make a coin cell with an enclosed euro or dollar coin. You can write your name, or anything you want, in the design. Simply edit the shapestring and font in the FreeCAD sources. You can even add a hole to use it like a keyring. Or just pay an Euro or dollar with style. Or give it as a gift or joke. As the coin is totally enclosed, you should print the part until 5.6mm (for the dollar version at 5.2mm) is reached, then pause the print, insert the coin in the hole, continue printing and let the printer enclose the coin. It's recommended to print in ABS with a layer thickness of 0.2mm and a nozzle size of 0.4mm. Don't use any kind of support. HINT: Once printed, you will have to break the plastic to use the coin in a vending machine. To make it easily breakable, you should print it in PLA and throw it to the floor with some strength trying to drop it flat. If printed in PLA, you can also drop it in hot water (60 to 70°C) and then bend it with your fingers until the coin pops up. If you have strong hands, you can even break it manually, but try not to bend the coin too much. HINT 2: At printing time, you can also change the filament when the text is starting to print to make it even more unique. For those of you without an euro coin handy, I've uploaded a new model just in case you have an American dollar coin instead. I don't have any dollar coins around, so please give me some feedback about this new model to confirm it fits well and helps people printing this design.
