In one of the most distinctive landscapes of this region - the Sierra de Montánchez and Tamuja territories - stands an extraordinary specimen of "Quercus rotundifolia," commonly regarded as the world's largest and oldest tree. Situated within the municipality of Zarza de Montánchez, the grandeur of its size and striking features justify its significance. Its impressive dimensions are praiseworthy: the oak measures 16.40 meters tall, with a trunk diameter of 26 meters. Moreover, its perimeter at chest height is 7.76 meters, while it reaches an astounding 9.4 meters at the base. "La Encina Terrona" has witnessed history firsthand for over 700 to 800 years, serving as a silent observer of local events and transformations along El Camino Real - a traditional road running nearby that saw the passage of Knights from the Order of Santiago on their way to reconquer Montánchez.
