Enamel Bedpan

Enamel Bedpan

myminifactory

A sleek metal bedpan with a white enamel finish takes shape as a urinal, its body resembling a bottle with one side flattened to rest easily on its side. A long, slender neck rises from the base, flaring out into a bulbous body that boasts a distinctive flat side. Topping off this design is a loop handle, carefully positioned for easy grasping. One of ten intriguing Museum objects scanned in 3D was showcased during Hack the Collection, a public program at the 2014 Sydney Design Festival. This innovative initiative paired ten contemporary designers from Sydney with ten thought-provoking objects from the Museum's collection. Over two intensive days, these skilled designers worked their magic in the Festival FabLab, creatively manipulating 3D object files to reimagine and reinvigorate the original designs on display for all to see. By the end of the weekend, the designers' imaginative reinterpretations were brought to life through 3D printing on MakerBots and proudly displayed alongside their original counterparts. We view our collection as a treasure trove of creative potential, ripe for exploration and inspiration. We wholeheartedly encourage you to download and creatively repurpose our objects, watching them evolve into entirely new forms and functions. We'd love to see the innovative ways you choose to reimagine our collection – do share your creations with us!
