Stuck in bed? This is a 3D scan of an early 20th-century bedpan from the Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences' collection. The urinal is designed as a bottle with one side flattened so it can rest on its side. It has a long, cylindrical neck that flares into a bulbous body with the flattened side. A loop handle tops the body. Find out more on our website. Background This was one of ten Museum objects scanned in 3D for Hack the Collection, a public program at the 2014 Sydney Design Festival, which paired ten contemporary Sydney designers with ten objects from the Museum's collection. Designers spent two intense days in the Festival FabLab creatively manipulating 3D object files to design their own hacked interpretations, on full display for an excited public. At the weekend's conclusion, the designers' remixed objects were 3D printed on MakerBots and displayed alongside their original counterparts. We see our collection as raw assets waiting to inspire new creations. We encourage you to download and remix our collection, taking it in bold new directions. Share with us your innovative forms and uses – we'd love to hear about them!
