EMT (Electrical Metallic Tubing) Conduit 3/4" Fittings
thingiverse
I have a stash of 3/4" EMT Conduit tubing at home, which I plan to repurpose for building a snow cab for my riding mower. The EMT Conduit is incredibly strong and versatile, with many potential uses beyond its original purpose as electrical wire conduit. After searching online for suitable fittings with little success, I designed some custom parts that I intend to 3D print soon. As I finalize the design of my tractor snow cab, I may add more components to this listing if I determine additional EMT Conduit fittings are necessary. Each fitting features a 1/4" hole intended for bolting the EMT into place by drilling a corresponding hole in the conduit and passing a bolt through both the fitting and the conduit. For those unfamiliar with my design, these fittings are not meant for electrical conduit applications but rather for creating structural items by combining the EMT Conduit with these custom parts. I've included STL files as well as the original 123D Design files, allowing users to modify or customize them as desired. I plan to print the fittings using PLA with infill ranging from 60% to 100%. Depending on the part's complexity, printing without supports or a raft may be possible. UPDATE: Two additional parts have been added to the design. As I started printing at 30% infill, I'm optimistic that these fittings will prove strong enough for their intended purpose. I'll continue sharing updates and photos as I proceed with testing. Update - August 25, 2017: I've successfully fit some conduit into the printed parts, which turned out to be a bit too tight. To avoid this issue, users may want to increase the part size slightly when slicing. I'll test this by increasing the part size by 3% and report back on any adjustments needed. Update - September 15, 2017: I've printed some 45-degree fittings with increased sizes of 5%, which now fit easily onto the 3/4" conduit. While this may be slightly too loose for some applications, it works well for my intended use. For the next print, I'll aim to increase the size by 3% and see how that affects the fit. Update - September 17, 2017: I've printed some TEE fittings with a 4% size increase, which also resulted in an easy fit onto the 3/4" conduit. Based on these results, my next print will feature a 3% size increase, which I believe will yield the optimal fit.
