Empuñadura de la Espada Jineta de Ali Atar
sketchfab
Empuñadura of one of the three magnificent swords manufactured in Andalusia that is preserved at the Army Museum in Toledo (MUSEJE). It belongs to a rare collection of jousting swords conserved worldwide. Traditionally, it has been considered as belonging to Ali Atar, the governor of Loja and father-in-law of Boabdil. It was seized after his death in the river Genil on April 21, 1483 during the Lucena cavalry ride. After some twists and turns, this sword ended up being safeguarded at the Monastery of San Jerónimo de Valparaiso de Córdoba, and from there to the Artillery Museum mid-19th century. The grip is composed of three sections and is the classic one of these types of Nazari swords.
