Laurent Delvaux was a Flemish sculptor born in Ghent in 1696. His international career took him to London and Rome before he returned to the Austrian Netherlands as a court sculptor. Delvaux marked a significant transition from the Baroque to Neo-classicism. Delvaux created twelve Roman emperor busts in Brussels' Warandepark, which have been displayed there since 1782. The busts are arranged around a fountain carved from white marble and depict each emperor wearing armor made of jasper-coloured marble. Although their faces have weathered significantly, it is assumed that one of these sculptures represents Caligula. This object is part of the "Scan The World" initiative launched by MyMiniFactory. This non-profit project aims to create a digital archive of fully 3D printable sculptures, artworks and landmarks from around the globe for public access. Scan The World is an open source community effort; if you have interesting items nearby and want to contribute, email stw@myminifactory.com to learn how to participate.
