Emperor Nero in Warandepark, Brussels
myminifactory
Laurent Delvaux was a Flemish sculptor born in 1696 in Ghent. His illustrious career took him to London and Rome, before he returned to the Austrian Netherlands where he worked as a court sculptor. Delvaux served as a link between the Baroque and Neo-classicism styles. Delvaux created twelve life-sized busts of Roman emperors in Brussels' Warandepark, which have been on permanent display since 1782. The sculptures are arranged around a fountain, each carved from white marble with armor made from jasper-colored marble. Although the faces have weathered significantly, one piece is believed to depict Caligula.
