Emperor Hadrian at The British Museum, London
myminifactory
The discovery of this sculpture in the River Thames at London Bridge in 1834 revealed an intriguing base. A bronze head from a life-size statue likely stood tall in Roman London's public spaces, possibly even in the forum. It may have been erected to honor Hadrian's visit to Britain in AD 122, during which he commissioned the building of a wall to safeguard the northern part of the province. As a seasoned traveler within the Empire, Hadrian left behind many marble statues, but this bronze one is a remarkable exception.
