Claude, a great nephew of Augustus, seized the throne at 51 years old in a shocking turn of events following the brutal assassination of Caligula. These portraits of the emperor embody the idealization of imperial figures implemented by Augustus. A powerful conqueror and reformer, Claude was unable to resist the significant influence exerted by his wife, Agrippina the Younger. This object is part of "Scan The World".
