Emperor Caracalla at The Louvre, Paris

Emperor Caracalla at The Louvre, Paris

myminifactory

After Septimus Severus's death, Caracalla killed his brother Publius Septimius Geta and ruled alone. This portrait style was commissioned by Caracalla for himself, marking the first time emotion was reflected in Roman sculpture - specifically aggressiveness. Notice the anger expressed through roughness around the brows and raised corners of the lips. Multiple reproductions of this era have been made. This object is part of "Scan The World," a non-profit initiative started by MyMiniFactory to create a digital archive of fully 3D printable sculptures, artworks, and landmarks worldwide for public access. Scan The World is an open-source community effort, where anyone with interesting items can contribute by emailing stw@myminifactory.com to learn how they can help.
