Case for the emonpi project
https://github.com/openenergymonitor/emonpi

I didn't buy the original case because I didn't like it that much. However, I had no easy way to mount the emonpi while protecting it from the elements.

I set out to design a simple case to house the emonPi and the Raspberry Pi that would be as small as possible but that would look good at the same time.

Print instructions

Category: Electronics Summary

Case for the emonpi project
https://github.com/openenergymonitor/emonpi

I didn't buy the original case because I didn't like it that much. However, I had no easy way to mount the emonpi while protecting it from the elements.

I set out to design a simple case to house the emonPi and the Raspberry Pi that would be as small as possible but that would look good at the same time.

Print Settings

Printer: MP Select Mini

Rafts: Yes

Supports: Yes

Resolution: 0.1

Infill: 50%

Notes:

Rotate the STL as needed to print flat against the bed. I recommended to use a brim to keep the flat pieces from warping at the edges.

Supports would be required for the port openings in the case. This prevents the case from warping while printing.

Post-Printing

Just remove some of the excess material (supports). sand or file as necessary to make it fit.

Use 3 screws to affix the emonPi to the bottom layer. Then add the raspberry trying to sandwich everything together.

The SD card will always be available in the top.

How I Designed This

I used the openly available CAD drawings of emonPi to design a case around it.

It turned out almost perfect the first try. I had to adjust the size of the lid to be a little thicker so that it would stick better to the case outline.
