This is a critical safety shutdown and smoke detector automatic shutdown system. Upon detecting smoke, the printer's power will be instantly cut off. The red button serves the same purpose as well as for a functional test activation. Update: I recently revised the lid to include additional screw holes; an updated version has been created accordingly. Moreover, I added just the tabs in case you have already printed it and they can be glued on. I utilized a Kidde kn-cosm-ibca smoke and carbon monoxide alarm with battery backup. The relay module used is Kidde sm120x. If you are unable to find that specific manufacturer or model, rest assured that most other manufacturers produce similar relay modules compatible with their respective alarm models. This setup has been successfully implemented for several prints now and has operated flawlessly without any issues. It provides an added sense of security knowing that it is in place if anything were to happen. For my personal installation, I continue to employ the standard on/off switch that I had mounted on the power supply unit. This switch could easily be installed on this unit as well or you could replace the trip test switch with an on/off switch.
