Embroidery machine
prusaprinters

Well not a whole machine but a setup that allows you to turn almost any simple sewing machine into digital embroidery machine.

Print instructions

Here you can find all the 3D printable parts, some of them need to be regenerated or redesigned (sensors mounts) to fit your sewing machine. The biggest hoop is designed as an assembly of multiple parts to fit it on 200x200mm printers platform. I would recommend printing all the hoops with PLA instead of ABS and brim turned on. Use at least 40% infill for all prints, rest of the parameters does not matter that much, consider about 12h to print all stuff at 0.25mm layer and average speed. Properly tuned setup offers 145x230mm workarea and 800-1000 SPM maximal stitching speed.

This project is not intended for complete beginners however everyone determined and motivated can accomplish it, it is no more complex than running custom build 3D printer as it was in an old times. All the sources are modifiable and accessible under liberal licenses. There is a much more information to cover so consider this reading.
Main controlling application can import CSV files created with Embroidermodder2 or Inkstitch digitizing free software (digitizer turns an image into path patterns, more likely what slicer does with model). As an electronics controller most of cheap 3D printers boards can be utilized after adding all necessary sensors.

Shortcuts:

Core application, KiCad schematics and SCAD files.

Arduino (or AVR's) firmware.

2D positioning system SCAD sources.

Video of machine at work.
