Carved by Jan van Schayck, an artist active from around 1494 to 1520, and painted by Ernst van Schayck and Dirck Scayck; these roundels adorned the ceiling of Utrecht Cathedral's library. They featured symbols of the four evangelists who wrote about Christ's life in the Gospels, while other bosses showcased four images representing the Fathers of the Church. These visuals served as a powerful reminder to those reading below of the Gospels and the impressive achievements of the early church's great scholars.
