Embedded RFID tag
thingiverse
I'm making custom tokens for a friend that have built-in RFID tags printed directly into them. The same tech used by "Skylander" toys has inspired me, but with one key difference - they employ a two-piece plastic base, which allows an RFID sticker to be inserted. I include a small sacrificial coin in the back of each design for easy access during assembly. At a crucial stage, I pause the print job so I can place the thin (~0.25mm) RFID tag inside the cavity without any complications. After inserting the tag, I restart the printer, allowing any excess material to ooze onto the sacrificial coin, effectively cleaning up the nozzle before finishing the token's construction. The result is a clean and smooth finish on my friend's custom game pieces, each with its own unique RFID identification.
