You might consider using foam to get a better grasp with the cam. For tightening it down, I personally use Rapstraps. Alternatively, a standard or reusable cable tie also works effectively. Velcro is not a viable solution. Bolt it down with the regular screws - it performs just fine. This design may have its flaws but it gets the job done and that was crucial to me.
