EMAX MT2213 Prop Nut
thingiverse
After completing my very first quadcopter and taking it out for its maiden flight, I learned that securing the prop nuts tightly is essential. In a nutshell, I lost two props mid-flight, but fortunately, they crashed into tall grass with no issues other than not finding one prop and two prop nuts. Not wanting to wait for new ones to arrive, I decided to make my own and was pleased with the result. They fit snugly and look great, and I don't foresee them spinning off even if they weren't tightened down properly. I am confident in their ability to hold onto the props securely. One thing that does concern me is the possibility of them wearing out after multiple removals and installations. To address this issue, I included tools to aid in their installation. (I scaled up the design from http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:964313.) Update 20 May 16: After several flights and a couple of crashes, the nuts are holding strong. One suggestion I have is to print the CW and CCW nuts in different colors, as it can be frustrating trying to determine which is which when they're the same color. Print Settings: Printer Brand: RepRap Printer: Core XY Rafts: Doesn't Matter Supports: Doesn't Matter Resolution: 0.1 Infill: 15 Notes: I set it to 3 for Top, Bottom and Shell with a .4 tip infill. The important part has no room for any, so you can set it to whatever you want. I also printed at .2 but found that .1 threaded on much smoother.
