
Ema Stack stackable gadgets system

I had an idea a while back to create a system of stackable gadgets that could be useful in many situations. The concept is to have a battery pack with USB charging capabilities and contacts on top that can power other devices, which will attach using magnets. These devices will also have contacts and magnets on their tops, allowing more units to be added as needed. They may include items like lanterns/lamps, Bluetooth speakers, clocks/barometers/thermometers, and many others. All of the electronics are based on cheap, widely available boards. As the set grows, I plan to add a battery pack with a built-in solar charger, possibly gesture control for lights, Wi-Fi/screens to display information from the internet, motion sensors, and more. The possibilities seem endless. Right now, I have completed two versions of the battery packs: one that uses six 18650 batteries and another that uses six 18350 batteries. I've also designed "bottoms" for chargers with one and two USB ports, as well as a tiny lantern add-on. I've been using these battery packs on a daily basis for about two months now, and they make great-looking gadgets sitting on my desktop. However, I've found them to be a bit bulky to carry around. I'll soon post a list of the materials/components used in the project, as well as publish the DesignSpark Mechanical source files.
