Ellipse intersection shape

Ellipse intersection shape

thingiverse

This OpenSCAD script generates a 2D shape using two partially overlapping ellipses. The width, height, and depth of the shape are controlled by specifying the final width, height, and ratio of depths for each side. An optional rounding feature preserves dimensions with controllable radius. Author: Mark Gaffney; Version: 1.3; Date: 2013-03-19. The script provides an option to modify using Customizer or edit variables like band width, band depth, rounding radius, inner depth ratio, centre type, and extrude thickness. It offers three module calls for different ellipse intersections, including centred, rounded, and regular versions. Note that if the band depth is greater than the band width, alignments might not work correctly, and a large rounding radius compared to depth or width may result in a circular shape. The script has undergone changes in previous versions, such as adding 3D linear/rotate extrusion (v1.3), improving centre and rounding control (v1.2), fixing alignment issues, ensuring compatibility with "Customizer" (v1.2), and using formula for an arc from mathopenref.com (v1.1). The initial version uses the intersection of arbitrarily sized circles via Minkowski operation to prove the concept.
