Ellipse-Heart
pinshape
Rotate around the central axis to switch between a heart and an ellipse. My first print-in-place creation. Think twice before printing this for Valentine's Day, unless you're certain she shares your geeky side. Printer Settings Printer Brand: Printrbot Printer: Simple Black Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: 0.2 Infill: 15% is sufficient Notes: Thick walls ensure the axle remains solid. I used four shells and four solid layers. Post-Printing The axle should separate from one half with a gentle twist of the two halves. It's not necessary to break it away from the other half unless you're meticulous about perfection. If needed, separate the parts by sliding a knife down between the body halves and at either end of the axle. Be cautious not to cut deeply near the axle, as this may weaken or break it. Design Inspiration I based my design on one found online (e.g., http://www.cutoutfoldup.com/1609-ellipse-to-heart). My own creation is available at OnShape.com... search Public projects for "Ellipse-Heart". Adjustments You can use the variable "tol" to adjust the tolerance between the parts. If you want a more accurate or easier-to-separate version, try increasing it. I set mine to 1mm. The model thickness can also be adjusted. Mine is set at 10mm, resulting in a 3mm axle if the tolerance is 1mm.
